Founded in 1945, the mission of the American School of Guatemala is to empower its students to achieve their full potential and to inspire them to lead meaningful lives as responsible members of a global society.

 

Head of School (General Director)                                                                                                                                                                      July 2017-present

CAG is an  independent, non-profit, non-denominational, college preparatory institution that offers a rigorous academic program modeled after the best educational practices and methodologies of the United States of America. CAG is founded on the principles of a co-educational, bi-cultural (Guatemala-United States), bilingual (Spanish-English) program. It serves the Guatemalan community and other families who value a holistic approach to education. Respect for religious, political, social, and cultural diversity is a fundamental part of the school’s identity.

CAG is fully accredited in the U.S. by the New England Association of Colleges and Schools and is recognized by the Guatemalan Ministry of Education as a Laboratory School. As a member of the Del Valle Grupo Educativo, CAG is actively committed to the development of education in Guatemala.

CAG enrolls over 1640 students from PreK-12th grade. Student nationalities represent Guatemala, Korea, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Honduras and other countries throughout Latin America.   CAG employs over 460 faculty and staff with over 125 international faculty members and 220 local faculty.  

  • Chief Executive Officer of the American School of Guatemala

  • Lead and develop the executive leadership team of the school

  • Market and advance the vision of the school across stakeholders and constituents 

  • Develop and articulate vision and goals to achieve strategic initiatives

  • Accountable for the execution of strategic commitments

  • Consults the Board of Trustees in strategic goals that include enhancing the educational experience, developing a master site plan, financial sustainability, contributing to educational development in Guatemala, recruit, attract, develop and retain the best local and international faculty and implement the value proposition through an advancement model.

  • Develop models to measure school success (data and anecdotal).

  • Right size school model; define capacity for 21st century CAG  

  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the School's Foundation Board.

  • Oversee the operating and capital budgets, investments and endowment. Build budget on a zero based model. 

  • Published schools first series of financial annual reports.

  • Develop data matrix of evaluations systems for school progress and improvement. 

  • Established role of Chief Operating Officer.

  • Built a comprehensive Advancement Team for the American School of Guatemala.

  • Network the school internationally; AMISA, AASCA, NAIS, CASE, FUVG, USFUVG, BiCultural School Group

Founded in 1960, Ranney School is a college-prep, co-educational, Beginners (3yrs)-12th grade independent day school serving over 750 students. Ranney School is dual accredited by MSA and NJAIS.  

 

Assistant Head of School for Academics                                                                                                                                                                 2014-present                                                                                                                                                               

Leadership responsibilities include supervision, evaluation, reporting, creating/designing and strategy for programmatic implementation in the executive functions of the school; administrative leadership, governance, curriculum, finance, advancement, personnel and institutional planning (strategic planning and accreditation). 

  • Direct report to the Head of School.

  • Report to the Board of Trustees on curriculum, supervision, and hiring and enrollment management.

  • Lead the school wide strategic planning process (new mission and published plan, fall 2015).

  • Co-chair the compensation committee and assess the internal compensation for regional and national competitiveness and internal equitability.

  • Develop, supervise and manage $10 million academic, programs and compensation budget.  

  • Lead campus hiring, establish job descriptions, develop search committees and recommend hires and compensation to Head of School.

  • Assess and administer the articulation of school wide, Prek-12th grade academic goals.

  • Implement and evaluate the faculty growth and supervision program. 

  • Partner with the advancement office to message academic and programmatic initiatives for strategic planning, fundraising, enrollment management, and develop internal and external communications plans.

  • Negotiate third-party service contracts (book vendors, educational supplies, insurance brokers)

Led the daily administrative and academic operations of the Lower School, assuring the division represented the school’s mission by advancing the school’s values through instruction, supervision, planning, enrollment management and communication.

  • Developed and managed a $2.5 million operating and compensation budget.

  • Established campus wide hiring/mentoring program and developed the parameters for managing personnel.

  • Developed and presented the case for a new Lower School facility to the Board of Trustees; and fundraised for $14million capital campaign for construction of new Lower School facility.

  • Established 21st century Lower School curriculum; Prek-5th grade science lab program, 1:1 access for 3yr olds-5th grade, robotics, string orchestra, reading, writing, math and social studies.

  • Established the Administrative Council; unified standards on matters that addressed curriculum, faculty supervision and communication. 

  • Created communication plans for school-wide press releases.

  • Supervised and reported on school wide enrollment-management goals.

  • Established with the CFO a revised compensation plan; benchmarking faculty salaries/benefits to reflect recognition of years of service, qualifications and performance against a set of standards for excellence.
